Deepen and expand your understanding of the points, their spirits, and their clinical use.
•To understand the depth of research and scholarship involved in translating ancient Chinese medical texts
•To learn the theoretical and practical/clinical information contained in Chinese medical classics
•To gain greater understanding of the philosophical history and foundations of modern Chinese medicine
During the first half day, Andrew Prescott will cover the most common characters that appear in many point names. On each successive half day, he will cover the main points of four Officials, for a total of 12 Officials.
Andrew Prescott, B.Ac. (UK), Dipl.Ac. (NCCAOM), L.Ac. (NC) Andrew recently published a book on this topic titled Cloud Gate: Acupuncture Point Names/A Comprehensive Compendium. He has thoroughly researched the Chinese language in its classical form and the rooting of the point names in the pictographic origins of the characters. He has an appreciation for the poetic and metaphorical origins of the characters, as well as the functional significance of the points as they have evolved through the Five Element and TCM traditions. The emphasis in Cloud Gate is on finding the common ground, the underlying intellectual framework that unites ideas.
Andrew has been practicing acupuncture since 1977. He completed his initial training at the College of Traditional Acupuncture (CTA) in the UK, going on to receive a post-graduate advanced degree from J.R. Worsley. He is trained in the Five Element tradition and studied TCM, as required for U.S. national board exams. He served for seven years as clinical director at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine (a school in NC inspired by the teachings of Van Nghi), and has a broad and unique perspective on Chinese medicine.
